Cultural Artifact

Natalie Gonzalez Professor Diana Solaria Communications 150 08 April 2014 Cultural Artifact Speech It’s pretty obvious what ill be talking about today and for those that are completely clueless then good at least I’m surprising a few. For those who don’t know what I’m holding, this right here established the foundation of my childhood, culture, and future. You guys thought I was going to keep It simple and say, “It’s Just a soccer ball” well yes It Is but to me it’s so much more than that. Lets begin with saying soccer Is universal.

There Is so much more than running non-stop for 90 minutes and going up and down a field chasing a ball. Since I can’t speak for everyone In the room and I don’t have super powers to read peoples mind, to me, soccer builds our character, holds families together, and brings a divided world Into one. Soccer has been In my life since day one, well not exactly since I started playing soccer competitively only 10 years ago. But for as long as I could remember, soccer has been there. It was all thanks to my dad for getting me into it. I would sit with him and watch soccer etches and ask him endless question about, What?

Why? When? And How? (one minute) Being in a household full of Barcelona fans, there was no doubt of missing a classic against Real Madrid. If I’m losing some of you with the term, “Classics” a classics in soccer is basically a match of the most followed team that is watched by hundred of millions of people. For example, Barcelona Vs.. Real Madrid. Well getting back to the point, seeing a classic is what would bring my family together. We would make bets against anyone that would come in our house and be Real Madrid fans, we loud scream and laugh throughout the match.

One thing I learned from watching soccer with my family is that win or lose we stay faithful to our team. And that is something that takes dedication and hope. That is something that I learned through watching soccer with my family and with the years of playing soccer. In high school, I played varsity and became captain my Junior year. A sense of responsibility was put on my plate when I was given the title. My dedication, responsibility, endurance, and confidence in my team and myself grew so much more from there and on.

I always had the sense of giving back to what I have learned over the years and I knew that putting It back into my community was the best thing I could do. I became assistant coach with my former coach in 2010 to help build the skills of young kids that had the thriving energy to learn and play soccer. Clueless then good at least I’m surprising a few. For those who don’t know what I’m future. You guys thought I was going to keep it simple and say, “It’s Just a soccer ball” well yes it is but to me it’s so much more than that.
