A letter to a friend about education and generation
Does she not remember what she learned in grade school? Does she not understand the good, traditional values of the American Education System or of American Society? I believe she has forgotten completely of what the true and inspirational definition of conformity Is. Does she not understand that we must pattern ourselves around those who are successful, and maybe, Just maybe, one day we will get a glimpse of what success and all the glory that follows? Without conformity where would our education system be? Where would our country be?
Why, I remember in my days teachers didn’t put up with some of these hair-brained schemes and ideas that are let loose in the lacrosse today. I’ve even heard that some teachers are letting students choose what they want to write. And when they want to write it! I can hardly believe that. Next thing you know they will be letting students choose what classes they wish to take. God help us, then the country will really be In shambles. Yes. In my day there were rigid rules of writing, stylized by a few great writers one must adhere to before they were to attempt writing on their own.
Our teacher gave us topics of good people such as presidents. Good role models like Richard Nixon, Harry S. Truman (god bless him), and the Roosevelt. We adhered to these inspirational speakers and hoped that deep down Inside we could give back to our fellow man what illuminating inspiration they gave to us. We only hoped we were half the person as they. We held these figures high In our school systems and started each day with prayer and “The Teachers were strict and wouldn’t hear nonsensical ideas of breaking away from boundaries and restraints of society.
I mean, those boundaries wouldn’t have been there in the first place if they didn’t need to be. We must learn to conform and accept or fated roles in society because you can’t change things Like that and why should you? The good lord wouldn’t have written the “Good Book” If the world were supposed to be hedonistic and self-serving. I even hear people now days talking about Jesus like he were some kind of a hippie. Some say in his lost writings He stated He wanted us to be free, and free to choose our own destiny, and cast off restraints to reap the true benefits of life while becoming one with the earth.
Yes and we would be damned to hell for believing it, you can bet that. No, we must have boundaries and structure. Especially in writing. I mean a little creativity is nice, such s the chivalrous tales of medieval periods Like “Beowulf” and “Sir Gain and the writings of William Shakespeare and his tales of scandal, lust, and greed. Oh, and that other one, I think his name was Chaucer. I saw the religious right proposing to ban the “Canterbury Tales” from public schools so I decided to read a bit of it. I was appalled at the likes!
Nothing but sex and vulgarity all the way through! I am so glad we have such a righteous group looking after our children and our great country. I sleep better at night knowing this. I believe discipline is the answer. Discipline in riding as well as their life. Only through discipline will a person find their true roles in life and their place in society. I overheard a young man talking the other day. He said he believes happiness to him would be living in a society where all could express their own ideas without fear of persecution.
Can you imagine this? WOWS (3)!?! Imagine everyone speaking their mind, or having the right to express their opinion in magazines, newspapers, and maybe even on the side of the road. It would be chaos. Pure chaos. Especially in a time right now with a country wrapped up in our state of affairs? What we need is for everyone to be quiet, listen to our leaders and let them lead us to victory over the savage heathens in these other lands. This is Our Day (4).
I Just don’t understand why people Just don’t stick to what they know or where they’re from? People should learn to stay with their class and Just keep their mouths shut. If they don’t have anything good to say then they shouldn’t say anything at all. One last thing. I heard a song the other day. It Just sort of popped on the radio and it was a fine young fellow with a fine voice. I couldn’t understand most of what he as singing but every now and then he would sing “the times they are a changing'”(5). He’s right you know.
