Narrative Essay of a trip to New York
I could hardly sleep the night before with anticipation, I hadn’t gone on a trip in two years and I was a little nervous. It would be the 1st time I would fly since September 1 1, 2001 and the whole thing made me uneasy. I double- checked what I packed, shook off the nervousness and began to get ready for bed. Falling asleep was the furthest thing from my mind but slowly as I thought of things to do I drifted into a deep sleep. The very next morning I went to work and because my morning was packed with assess time passed with ease.
I drove home from work bursting with anticipation so that I could shower and pack what was left. When I got home I put on my Sean Paul CD and took a shower. I knew I had to dress warm because it would be cool out there. Our flight left at 6:pm and it was only 2:00. I told myself ” Nanas you need to slow down and take your time”, but I Just couldn’t, to think of the possibilities of this trip and all the new experiences excited me. I continued to get dressed and blow-dry my hair. Time was not on my side today. It was taking forever.
Finally Shady and Junior got to my house to pick me up and take Shady and me to the airport. It was only 4 o’clock and I knew at that time that the wait would be a long one. After a couple of near death experiences we make it to Ft. Lauderdale airport and Jar. Helps us unload our luggage. At that moment I felt sad over leaving my friends; I wished they were going to but I knew it was a getaway for Shady and l. We walked to the check-in desk and I got a little nervous that they would not find our tickets or that something would go wrong. “Your name” said the attendant. Nanas Palm and Shady Aware” I replied. K I found you r reservations, I will need to see ID from both of you” she said with a smile. I handed our Ids to her and she looked at them and looked at us. I felt as if she didn’t believe it was us and she wouldn’t let us check-in. “How many bags will you be checking in? ” she asked as she handed us our ‘ads. “Two, but mine is really heavy” I said feeling bad about over packing. She laughed and said it was K. The attendant handed us our tickets and directed us to the terminal. And as we walked down to the metal detectors I had this tattered and I was on my way to experience something new.
A memory that no one would be able to take away, something I had never experienced. When we got to the metal detector Shady had told me that it would take long because he was most likely to be stopped by security because of his name. Yet as we both went through security I got stopped and he passed right through. Instead of being annoyed at the fact that I had to take off my shoes and belt and have them search them I felt protected and was more than pleased to have them check my things. I passed through security Hough in 10 minutes. So we still had an hour to wait till the flight boarded.
After the entire racing to get to the airport and all the anticipation Shady and I noticed that we had not eaten anything at all. We both walked to Antenna’s Hot Dogs for some dinner. Satisfied and anxious we sat in the terminal and waited. We spoke about how much fun we would have and how he couldn’t wait for me to meet his father. Then on the load speaker came a voice that said, We both got our stuff together and walked over to the boarding entrance. As we got in the plane I noticed Shad’s face become a bit more serious and no so carefree.
I could not figure out what happened but all I knew is that I was smiling from ear to ear. As we proceeded to find out seats and settle down I noticed that the conversation between shady and I was a bit more short. I asked him what was wrong and he let me know that he was afraid of flying. Now being as how I had a lot of experience flying on smaller aircrafts like Essence’s and pipers I did not find commercial planes that terrifying. It was an eye opening experience to see someone else is scared of something I had enjoyed so much.
I spoke with shady a little bit and as the plane began to get ready for departure he stopped speaking. I was alone on this take off. I was happy though. I put on my headset and awaited departure. Then as the plane began to roll to the runway I heard the captain say, ” Ladies and Gentlemen we will be taking of shortly, at this moment we are number 3 in line for take off Shady hand squeezed mine and at that moment and I felt needed. Yet I was disappointed that I would have to wait some more. I started singing in my head. I kicked up the in flight magazines.
I tried to talk to my neighbor, but he was too busy freaking out. So after 10 minutes sitting around the plane began to rev its engines and turn onto the runway. As the plane gained speed Shady squeezed my hand harder and my heart started beating. I was actually nervous about taking off. The plane was shaking and it made a couple of “thump” noises. Not a word was said in the plane as it went down the runway. I looked around and saw people holding their kids and some with their eyes closed Just praying. Then you felt a great pressure on your chest and your ears clogged. We were on our way up!
I closed my eyes and swallowed so that I could pop my ears and finally when the pressures where gone I opened my eyes. I turned to Shady and said, ” Hey, we’re in the air its K” He shook his head nervously and took a couple of deep breaths. The flight took about 3 hours and as long as there was no turbulence I spent them we prepared for final you could see the city lights get closer. The window was cold and growing some ice on it but you could still see the city clearly. The closer we got you could see Manhattan, where the towers used to be. I was in awe how beautiful ND full of life this city could be.
I was surprised that after the entire city had been through it was still as beautiful as the pictures. Staring out the window took my mind of the landing, but a soon as looked back in the plane I was reminded of someone else terror. Finally we landed and to be honest it was a little rough but we did make it safe and sound. Finally I was in New York, The Big Apple, and the City that never sleeps. It took what seemed to be forever to get off the plane and get our bags. We grabbed our bags and began our vacation. In the end it was a Journey with the wait.
