Ruby Analysis – Cold Mountain
There is also a sense that Ruby is not like most arils because she knows many things a man does and she can do things physically that Dad struggles with. She also has a mystical side to her because she watches the stars and pays attention to the birds and sky to help her make decisions. Ruby later opens up to Dad and tells her about her hard life and her deadbeat father. The reader finally learns why she is so rugged, because she is scarred. When Dad learns of this she has more respect for Ruby. Dad becomes a safe haven to Ruby because she has found somebody that cares and a place that she could have a good life.
Ruby has found a place that she feels welcome which she never had with her father. Dad also becomes a friend to Ruby and she never had many friends before. Since It Is just the two of them on the farm there is a special bond that forms between them. They become closer to each other than they have been with anybody else In their lives. Ruby becomes a savior to Dad because Dad could not have survived long without some kind of help. However, they both become saviors to each other because Ruby was alone most her life and then she found Dad.
When Stored came to Dad’s souse and found Ruby she was skeptical about letting him back in her life but she eventually started to help him and care for him again. That shows the reader that under her rough personality she has a kind heart and will do what she can for people. She has a soft spot for Just a few people especially Dad and Stored because she wants to help them and make sure they are going to be safe and healthy. The reader sees that she truly has a good heart when they climb the mountain to give Bangle a proper burial and when nurses Stored back to health when he was shot.
At he end of the novel Ruby has become everything that Dad wanted to be which Is very Ironic. Ruby becomes a wife and a mother which was what Dad wanted with Inman. Throughout the whole novel Ruby was teaching Dad how to be Independent but the two close friends could not leave each other and decided to live In the same house. In the end Dad and Ruby created such a strong bond that In the end they could not be without each other.
