Assignment Physics

Influence of the parameters. The Lab will be graded based upon the appropriate use of the language of physics to describe the data recorded. 1 . (4 points) The bars representing gravitational potential energy and mechanical energy will increase when you increase the angle. Why? (use the language of physics) As I increase the angle, gravitational potential energy increases and mechanical energy stays the same. Gravitational potential energy is the weight of the object and because the angle Is Increased the weight of the object causes It to fall faster with an increased velocity. (4 points) The View Vectors panel allows you to select the quantities displayed in the picture area of the screen. Select each component individually and play the animation for several different angles and record your results in a table. How do each vector these components change as you vary the angle? Using the language of physics provide an explanation of why the vectors change as they do. The only change is the velocity. It increases as the brick falls down. Every other component remains the same as the angle remains the same and so does the mechanical energy.

As a gravitational force pulls the brick it’s speed gets faster and faster until it hits the ground, the ground puts a sudden stop to the force. 3. (8 points) The larger the coefficient of static friction, the steeper you must tilt the plank to make the brick slide. Find and record those critical values where the friction force is Just enough to keep the brick from sliding. Explain and Justify the relationship, y = tan(x) between the coefficient of static friction and this critical angle?
