A Flood

It was a dark and stormy night. The rain pattered against the window panes. It had been raining heavily non-stop for the past seven days. The nearby river had been steadily rising and would soon burst its banks if the rain did not stop. Father kept telling us that it would be wise to put all the necessary and important Items In a safe place. We decided that it would indeed be wise If we did as our father advised. For the next hour or so, our house and the neighboring houses were a hike of actively as everyone was moving all the essential Items to a secure location before the first wave f flood hit our village.

The village head man held an emergency meeting In the community hall. He said that the water level In the nearby Lang Dam and Sung Tackle was steadily rising and there Is no sign of the rain abetting for the next 72 hours. He then decided that It would be advisable that all residents moved to the nearby hill for safety. In no time, everyone In the village moved about gathering whatever belonging they could gather and moved out of the village and headed towards the predetermined place for shelter from the rain and the impending disaster. A swarm of people were seen heading towards GU Hill.

As soon as they all had arrived they rushed to an open area from which they could view the entire valley. Their village, their homes, crops, poultry and cows. All of a sudden, there was this sound that sounded like an explosion and right before our very eyes, the dam burst forth, gushing out million of gallons of water. A wave, almost 10 meters high, loomed menacingly over our tiny village before washing it away in a torrent of water. Livestock, poultry, crops, were also washed away. An occasional moo of a cow loud be heard from a distance. And to my surprise I heard a cry from a person.

He had not been able to get to safety and was simply washed away in the flood. I stars in utter disbelieve. We spent a total of three days on the hill, waiting, hoping and praying that this disaster pass. On the fourth day, the rain showed signs of letting up and the flood water had completely residues. We cautiously made our way down the slippery slopes of GU Hill towards our village. When we approached our village, we could see the extent of the damage caused by the flood. The devastation was severe. From a distance we could see working feverishly to repair the broken dam.

Sadness and diaper was visible/ written/ seen on everyone. As for me, Could only marvel at the force of nature. I was also touched at the lost. This would be my most memorable Incident. Telling us that it would be wise to put all the necessary and important items in a safe place. We decided that it would indeed be wise if we did as our father advised.
